A retweeter is an individual who shares another user’s tweet on the social media platform Twitter (now known as X). Retweeting is a core feature of Twitter, allowing users to amplify content by redistributing it to their own followers. When a user retweets a post, it appears in their followers’ timelines with a small "Retweeted by [username]" label, indicating the original author while attributing the action to the retweeter.

Retweeting serves multiple purposes, including spreading awareness of important news, opinions, or trends, engaging with content from influential accounts, or supporting creators whose posts resonate with the retweeter’s audience. The feature also enables discussions by prompting replies or further engagement from the retweeter’s network. Twitter offers two retweet options: a standard retweet, which reposts the original content verbatim, and a "quote tweet," which allows the retweeter to add their own commentary alongside the shared post.

The act of retweeting can influence a tweet’s visibility and reach, as it extends its distribution beyond the original author’s followers. However, it can also raise questions about accountability, as retweeters may inadvertently endorse or amplify content without critically evaluating its accuracy or intent. Some users employ retweeting strategically for personal branding, networking, or promotional purposes, while others use it casually to share interesting or relevant material.
