A retinorecipient is a cell or tissue that has received or incorporated retinal cells. This term is primarily used in the context of ophthalmology and regenerative medicine, particularly in research aimed at treating vision loss. Retinal cells, such as photoreceptors (rods and cones) and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells, are crucial for vision. When these cells are damaged or lost due to disease or injury, vision impairment can result.

The concept of retinorecipience involves transplanting healthy retinal cells into a damaged or diseased eye. These transplanted cells are then expected to integrate into the existing retinal circuitry and restore some degree of visual function. This integration process is what defines the recipient tissue as retinorecipient.
