Retikulärem is an adjective used in Swedish to describe a net-like or mesh-like structure. In biology and medicine it is applied to tissues, fibers, or patterns that form a reticulum, or network, rather than a solid mass. The term is related to reticular, reticulate, and reticulum in related languages and contexts.

In histology, reticular connective tissue provides a supporting framework, or stroma, for various organs. It consists mainly of reticular fibers, which are thin, highly branched fibers composed largely of type III collagen, and of reticular cells that produce these fibers. This network forms a three-dimensional scaffold that supports the parenchymal cells and blood vessels in organs such as the spleen, lymph nodes, and bone marrow, and it also contributes to the architecture of the liver and thymus.

Reticular fibers are typically stained using silver-based methods in microscopy, which highlights the delicate, branching meshwork. The presence and arrangement of a reticular network influence how cells migrate, interact, and function within the tissue, playing a crucial role in immune responses and hematopoiesis in lymphoid organs.

Beyond connective tissue, the term retikulärem can describe other net-like patterns observed in tissues or organs, such as sinusoids in the liver or the stromal framework of various glands. Etymologically, the word derives from Latin reticulatus, meaning net-like, and it is used to convey the idea of a structured, interconnected mesh.
