Reluktanssimoottorit are a type of electric motor that operate based on the principle of magnetic reluctance. Unlike induction motors or permanent magnet motors, reluktanssimoottorit do not require windings or permanent magnets on the rotor. Instead, the rotor is made of a ferromagnetic material that is shaped to have varying magnetic reluctance. The stator has windings that are energized sequentially to create a rotating magnetic field.
The rotor attempts to align itself with the stator's magnetic field in a position of minimum reluctance.
