Rekomen is a colloquial term used in Indonesian and, to some extent, Malay-speaking communities to indicate that something is recommended or to offer a recommendation. It is a shortened form of rekomendasi, the standard Indonesian word for recommendation, and has become common in casual speech, online forums, social media, and entertainment reviews.

The word can function as both a noun and a verb in informal contexts. As a noun, it appears in phrases like ini rekomen, meaning “this is recommended.” As a verb, it is used in constructions such as aku rekomen tempat itu, meaning “I recommend that place.” The form is informal and widely understood among younger speakers, especially in digital communications.

In online culture and everyday life, rekomen is frequently heard in reviews, comments, and discussions about films, games, restaurants, and products. People use it to signal approval quickly or to share practical tips: “rekomen banget” (highly recommended) or “ada rekomen tempat makan?” (do you have any place to recommend for eating?). Because it is informal, rekomen appears mainly in text messages, social media posts, and casual video captions rather than in formal writing.

Relation to standard language: the formal equivalents are rekomendasi (noun) and merekomendasikan (verb). Rekomen reflects a common pattern in Indonesian slang of clipping longer words to fit conversational rhythm.
