Registreringssted is a Norwegian term that translates literally to “registration place” or “registration site” and refers to the official location where a particular type of registration is carried out. The most common uses are in the contexts of vehicle registration, business registration, and personal resident registration.

In vehicle registration, the registreringssted is the office of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen) where ownership, vehicle details, and license plates are recorded in the nasjonalt register for roads. Each vehicle must be registered at a specific office, and the registreringssted information is also used for tax assessment and the issuance of permits.

For companies and sole traders, the registreringssted is the place where the Norwegian Register of Business Enterprises (Enhetsregisteret) joins the enterprise to the national registry. Historically this was the local municipality office, but since digitalisation most registrations are now processed online, with the registreringssted being recorded in the electronic filing system of the company registry.

Personal resident registration (folkeregisteret) uses the registreringssted to track where a person is officially registered as living. When a person moves within Norway, they must update their address at the local municipal registration office; the new address becomes the registreringssted and is used for voting, tax purposes, and accessing public services.

The concept of registreringssted ensures that each registration is linked to a specific administrative authority, providing clarity for legal, administrative, and statistical purposes. The term is largely confined to Norway, though similar concepts exist in other Scandinavian countries under different names.
