Reaktorkonstruktioner, often translated as reactor designs or reactor constructions, refers to the engineering and architectural plans for nuclear reactors. These designs dictate the physical layout, safety features, and operational capabilities of a nuclear power plant. The core of any reactor design is the reactor vessel, which contains the nuclear fuel and moderating material, and is designed to withstand the extreme temperatures and pressures involved in nuclear fission.

Different types of reactor constructions exist, primarily categorized by the type of coolant and neutron moderator used. Common examples include Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs), Boiling Water Reactors (BWRs), and Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs). PWRs use ordinary water as both coolant and moderator, keeping it under high pressure to prevent boiling. BWRs allow the water to boil directly within the reactor core, producing steam to drive turbines. PHWRs, such as the CANDU reactor, use heavy water (deuterium oxide) as a moderator and coolant, allowing for the use of natural uranium as fuel.

Beyond the core components, reactor constructions also encompass the surrounding infrastructure. This includes containment buildings, designed to prevent the release of radioactive materials in case of an accident, and control rod systems, used to regulate the nuclear reaction rate. Emergency cooling systems and backup power sources are also integral parts of modern reactor designs, prioritizing safety and reliability. The choice of reactor construction is influenced by factors such as economic considerations, fuel availability, safety regulations, and specific energy demands.
