Raszterreprezentáció, often translated as raster representation or rasterization, is a method of representing graphical information by dividing an image into a grid of small colored squares called pixels. Each pixel holds a specific color value. When an image is displayed on a screen or printed, the computer or printer interprets this grid of pixels to recreate the visual.

This approach is fundamental to how digital cameras capture images, how scanners digitize physical documents, and how most computer graphics are rendered. Unlike vector graphics, which describe images using mathematical equations for lines and curves, raster graphics are resolution-dependent. This means that if a raster image is scaled up too much, the individual pixels become visible, leading to a blurry or pixelated appearance.

Common file formats for raster images include JPEG, PNG, and GIF. These formats store the color information for each pixel, allowing for detailed and photographic images. While raster graphics excel at representing complex color gradients and realistic textures, they can be less efficient for graphics that require precise scaling, such as logos or technical drawings, where vector graphics are often preferred.
