ramadapted is a term used to describe a computer system or software that has been modified or adapted to run on a Random Access Memory (RAM) disk. A RAM disk is a portion of a computer's main memory that is configured to act like a hard drive. Because RAM is significantly faster than traditional storage devices like hard disk drives or even solid-state drives, using a RAM disk can drastically improve the performance of applications and entire operating systems.

Adapting a system to run on a RAM disk typically involves copying the operating system and/or application files into the RAM disk at boot time. This allows the system to access and execute files at the speed of RAM, leading to much faster load times, application responsiveness, and overall system operation. However, RAM is volatile memory, meaning its contents are lost when the power is turned off. Therefore, systems adapted for RAM disks usually require a mechanism to save the contents of the RAM disk back to persistent storage before shutting down, and then reload it upon the next startup.
