Raised letter refers to a design technique in which individual letters are formed to project above the surface of a material, creating a three-dimensional relief. The technique is used in signage, branding, and decorative elements to provide legibility and tactile texture.

Production methods vary by material. In signage, raised letters may be manufactured as separate units and mounted on a background surface. Letters can be cast or molded in metal, plastic, or resin; machined from solid material by milling or routing; or formed by laser-cutting and then raised by attaching to a backing. Embossing involves deforming a sheet from behind to raise the letter on the front, while debossing creates a recessed letter.

Materials and finishes include metal (aluminum, brass), plastics (acrylic, polycarbonate), wood, foam, and stone. Finishes range from painted or powder-coated to lacquered, brushed, or gilded, and some letters are internally lit for storefront signs (channel letters) or halo-lit from backing.

Applications include exterior and interior signage, architectural features, memorial plaques, awards, and product branding. Raised letters are valued for durability, legibility at a distance, and the tactile dimension they add to a surface.
