Radioteleskopët are specialized astronomical instruments designed to detect and study radio waves emitted by celestial objects. Unlike optical telescopes that capture visible light, radioteleskopët use large antennas, often dish-shaped, to focus these longer wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation onto sensitive receivers. These receivers convert the radio waves into electrical signals, which are then processed and analyzed by computers to create images or spectra of the radio sources.

The development of radioteleskopët began in the early 20th century, with Karl Jansky's accidental discovery of cosmic radio waves in 1932. Since then, radiotelescopy has become a crucial tool in understanding a wide range of astronomical phenomena. These include the study of pulsars, quasars, galaxies, nebulae, and the cosmic microwave background radiation, which provides insights into the early universe.

Radioteleskopët can be found as single, large dishes or as arrays of multiple antennas. Interferometry, a technique that combines signals from several widely separated antennas, allows for much higher resolution than a single telescope, effectively creating a virtual telescope as large as the distance between the individual antennas. Famous examples of radioteleskopët include the Arecibo Observatory (now defunct), the Very Large Array (VLA) in New Mexico, and the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile. These instruments have played a vital role in numerous astronomical discoveries.
