The radial artery is a major artery in the forearm. It originates from the bifurcation of the brachial artery in the cubital fossa. It then travels down the lateral aspect of the forearm, accompanied by the radial nerve in its proximal part. The radial artery is superficial and palpable at the wrist, where it forms the basis of the radial pulse. This pulse is commonly used for medical assessment.

As the radial artery descends, it gives off several branches, including the radial recurrent artery, which supplies muscles around the elbow joint. It also provides branches that supply the muscles and bones of the forearm. Near the wrist, it branches further to contribute to the arterial supply of the hand.

The radial artery is a common site for arterial cannulation, used for blood sampling and monitoring. It is also frequently used for coronary artery bypass grafting and angioplasty procedures due to its accessibility and relatively large size. The superficial location and palpable nature of the radial artery make it a critical landmark in the anatomy of the upper limb. Its continued branching ensures adequate blood supply to the distal forearm and the intricate network of vessels in the hand.
