It refers to the individual who is the primary responsible party for a credit card, debit card, or other financial account. This person is typically the one whose name is on the card and who is legally responsible for all transactions made with it, as well as for the repayment of any outstanding balances.

The pääkortinhaltija usually applies for the card and undergoes the credit check or verification process. They have the authority to add authorized users to the account, but they remain ultimately liable for the account's activity.
