Pääjaksoa is a Finnish term that translates to "main sequence" in English, referring to a fundamental stage in the life cycle of stars. Stars spend the vast majority of their existence in this phase, during which they fuse hydrogen into helium in their cores. This process generates the energy that makes stars shine.

The position of a star on the main sequence is primarily determined by its mass.
