Puhelinkaiden is a Finnish term that translates to "phone booth" or "telephone box." Historically, these public enclosures were a common sight in urban and rural areas, providing a private space for individuals to make phone calls using a public payphone. They were particularly important before the widespread adoption of mobile phones.

The design of puhelinkaiden varied, but they often featured a small structure with a door, providing shelter from the elements and a degree of privacy. Inside, a payphone would be mounted on a wall or pedestal, along with instructions for use and often a directory. In some cases, they were simple open-air structures with a roof and a single wall.

While once a ubiquitous feature of the Finnish landscape, the rise of mobile technology has led to a significant decline in the number of active puhelinkaiden. Many have been removed or repurposed. However, some historical examples are preserved as cultural artifacts or have been transformed into other public amenities, such as mini-libraries or charging stations. The concept of a designated public space for communication, even if now largely obsolete, remains a notable part of Finnish social history.
