Propüültiuratsiil is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C7H10N2OS. It is a derivative of thiouracil, a heterocyclic organic compound. Propüültiuratsiil belongs to the class of drugs known as antithyroid agents. These agents are used to treat hyperthyroidism, a condition where the thyroid gland produces an excessive amount of thyroid hormones.

The mechanism of action of propüültiuratsiil involves inhibiting the enzyme thyroid peroxidase. This enzyme is crucial for the synthesis of thyroid hormones, specifically for the iodination of tyrosine residues on thyroglobulin and the subsequent coupling of these iodinated tyrosines to form thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3).
