Promiscuous mode, often referred to as promiscuousenabled in network interface configurations, is a setting that allows a network interface card (NIC) to process all packets it receives on a network segment, regardless of the intended destination address. Normally, a NIC will only process packets that are addressed to its own MAC address, a broadcast address, or a multicast address it is subscribed to. When promiscuous mode is enabled, the NIC forwards all incoming packets to the operating system for further inspection.
