A projector screen is a surface onto which an image is projected by a projector. The gain of a projector screen refers to its ability to reflect light. A screen with a gain of 1.0 reflects light equally in all directions. Screens with a gain greater than 1.0 reflect more light back towards the viewer, increasing brightness, while screens with a gain less than 1.0 diffuse light more, offering wider viewing angles but potentially reduced brightness. The choice of screen material also affects image quality, with options ranging from standard matte white surfaces to specialized materials designed to improve black levels, contrast, or ambient light rejection. The size and aspect ratio of the screen are also important considerations, typically matching the output resolution and intended viewing environment.
