Polynomolekyylejä are complex molecules composed of repeating structural units called monomers, linked together by covalent bonds. This repeating structure is the defining characteristic of these large molecules, often referred to as polymers. The monomers themselves can be simple or complex organic molecules. Synthetic polymers, on the other hand, are man-made and form the basis of plastics, synthetic fibers, rubbers, and adhesives. The properties of a polymer are heavily dependent on the type of monomer used, the length of the polymer chain, and how the chains are arranged and interact with each other. This ability to tailor properties by controlling molecular structure makes polymers incredibly versatile materials.
