It is a pressurized tube that distributes fuel from the fuel pump to the fuel injectors. The fuel rail is typically made of metal, such as aluminum or steel, and is designed to withstand the high pressures of the fuel system.

The primary function of the polttoainekisko is to ensure that each fuel injector receives a consistent and adequate supply of fuel. It acts as a buffer, smoothing out any pressure fluctuations from the fuel pump before the fuel reaches the injectors. This consistent pressure is crucial for precise fuel metering and atomization, which in turn affects engine performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions.

In gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines, the polttoainekisko operates at significantly higher pressures compared to port fuel injection systems. This increased pressure allows for more accurate fuel delivery directly into the combustion chamber. The polttoainekisko is usually located on the intake manifold, close to the fuel injectors. It is connected to the fuel pump via a fuel line and to the injectors by individual fittings. A pressure regulator is often integrated into or connected to the fuel rail to maintain the correct fuel pressure within the system.
