Politiekorps is the Dutch term for a police force. In the Netherlands, law enforcement is organized nationally into the Nederlandse politie, which is a unified police force. This national police force consists of the Politie Eenheid (Police Unit) and the Dienst Landelijke Eenheden (National Police Services Agency). The Politie Eenheid is responsible for basic policing duties in regional areas, while the Dienst Landelijke Eenheden handles specialized tasks and national operations.

The primary functions of a politiekorps include maintaining public order, preventing and investigating crime, and assisting citizens. Police officers are tasked with upholding the law, responding to emergencies, and ensuring the safety and security of the community. They have a range of powers, including the authority to arrest suspects, conduct searches, and use force when necessary.

The structure and responsibilities of the politiekorps are governed by Dutch legislation, primarily the Politiewet (Police Act). The Minister of Justice and Security is politically responsible for the police. Recruitment and training of police officers are conducted by the Politieacademie (Police Academy), ensuring that officers are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively and ethically. The politiekorps operates under a principle of democratic oversight, with accountability mechanisms in place to ensure transparency and public trust.
