pogone
Pogone, also known as pogonia, is a genus of flowering plants in the family Orchidaceae, subfamily Orchidoideae. The genus is native to the Old World tropics, with species ranging from tropical Africa to Southeast Asia. Pogone species are epiphytic or lithophytic, meaning they grow on other plants or rocks, respectively. They are characterized by their pseudobulbs, which are elongated and often bear a single leaf at the apex. The flowers are typically resupinate, meaning they turn upside down as they open, and are usually white or cream-colored with a yellow or orange lip. The genus includes around 20 species, with Pogonia ophioglossoides being the most well-known. Pogone orchids are popular among orchid enthusiasts due to their unique appearance and relatively easy cultivation. They require bright, indirect light and well-draining soil to thrive.
