Construction: A pneumatico comprises an outer tread and sidewalls built on a carcass of fabric or steel cords. It may be tubed (with an inner rubber tube) or tubeless (inner liner seals air). Modern passenger-car tires are typically tubeless; some designs use run-flat capabilities to maintain limited mobility after a puncture.

Types and performance: Tires vary as radial or bias-ply constructions, and as tubeless or tubed designs. They are rated for load and speed and employ different tread patterns and rubber compounds to balance grip, wear, fuel efficiency, and noise. Sizes follow standardized codes indicating width, aspect ratio, and diameter.
