Plant layout refers to the physical arrangement of facilities, equipment, and workspaces within a manufacturing plant or industrial facility. This offers flexibility for producing a variety of products with different requirements, but can lead to longer material handling distances. Fixed-position layout is used when the product is too large or heavy to be moved, such as in shipbuilding or aircraft manufacturing, with workers and equipment brought to the product.
