Pioneerittain is a hypothetical geological term proposed to describe a specific type of early terrestrial crust formation. The concept suggests that during the Hadean or early Archean eons, before the widespread formation of stable continental plates as we know them today, a precursor crust existed. This pioneerittain layer is theorized to have been a more mobile and less differentiated crust, possibly characterized by a higher proportion of volcanic activity and thinner sections compared to modern continents.

The formation of pioneerittain is envisioned as a result of the initial cooling and solidification of the Earth's mantle. It is thought to have been relatively unstable, subject to frequent subduction and recycling back into the mantle. This constant churn prevented the accretion of large, stable landmasses.
