Perintämenettely refers to the legal process of collecting debts in Finland. It is initiated when a creditor is unable to recover a debt from a debtor voluntarily. The primary goal is to enforce the creditor's claim and obtain payment.

If the debtor does not pay or reach a settlement, the creditor can apply for a payment order from the Enforcement Office (ulosottovirasto). Once a payment order is in place, the Enforcement Office can take steps to collect the debt. This may include garnishing the debtor's wages, seizing and selling their assets, or imposing restrictions on their bank accounts. The specific measures depend on the debtor's financial situation and the nature of the debt.

There are also possibilities for voluntary settlements and payment plans to be arranged between the creditor and the debtor, which can avoid or simplify the formal enforcement proceedings. The process is governed by Finnish law, and debtors have certain rights and protections throughout the proceedings. The Enforcement Office acts as an impartial authority overseeing the debt recovery process.
