Perfluorokaasut, often abbreviated as PFCs or PFAS, are a group of synthetic chemicals characterized by the presence of multiple carbon-fluorine bonds. These bonds are exceptionally strong, which imparts unique properties to PFCs, such as resistance to heat, water, and oil. This makes them useful in a wide variety of industrial and consumer products.

Historically, PFCs have been employed in applications including non-stick cookware coatings, stain-resistant fabrics and carpets, firefighting foams, and food packaging. Their persistence in the environment and potential for bioaccumulation have led to increasing concern. Due to their stability, PFCs do not readily break down in nature, leading to their designation as "forever chemicals."

Research has indicated potential health concerns associated with exposure to certain PFCs, including impacts on the immune system, thyroid function, and increased risk of certain cancers. Regulatory bodies worldwide are increasingly scrutinizing the use of PFCs and implementing restrictions on their production and application. Efforts are underway to develop safer alternatives and to remediate existing contamination.
