A pelotari is a player of jai alai, also known as pelota vasca, a fast-paced sport originating in the Basque Country. The name "pelotari" itself derives from the Basque word for ball, "pelota." Pelotaris are known for their incredible speed, agility, and hand-eye coordination, as they must catch and throw a hard ball at speeds exceeding 150 miles per hour.

The primary equipment used by a pelotari is the cesta punta, a long, curved basket worn on the hand. This cesta is used to scoop the ball from the wall and propel it back with immense force.
