P-blocks, or p-blokken in Dutch, are a group of chemical elements that occupy the p-block of the periodic table. These elements have their outermost electrons in the p-orbitals, which gives rise to a wide range of chemical properties from highly reactive nonmetals to metals and metalloids.

In most standard classifications, the p-block spans groups 13 through 18 and includes six elements in each period from period 2 to period 7. Helium is sometimes excluded from the p-block because its valence electrons reside in the 1s orbital, not the p-subshell; some schemes place it with the noble gases instead. The six groups within the block are commonly named after their characteristic element families: the boron group (group 13), the carbon group (group 14), the pnictogens (group 15), the chalcogens (group 16), the halogens (group 17), and the noble gases (group 18).

The p-block contains a broad diversity of elements: nonmetals such as carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen; metalloids like boron, silicon, and arsenic; and metals such as aluminum, tin, and lead. Halogens are highly reactive nonmetals, while noble gases are largely inert. The general valence configuration for p-block elements is ns2 np1–6, reflecting the filling of the p-sublevel across the block.

P-block elements play crucial roles in chemistry, biology, and industry. They include many elements essential for life (carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, sulfur) and a range of materials and technologies, from semiconductors to fluorinated compounds and noble-gas applications.
