patellartendon
The patellar tendon is a strong band of fibrous tissue that connects the patella, commonly known as the kneecap, to the tibia, the larger bone in the lower leg. This tendon is a crucial component of the extensor mechanism of the knee, working in conjunction with the quadriceps muscles and the patella to straighten the leg. When the quadriceps muscles contract, they pull on the patella, which in turn pulls on the patellar tendon. This action transmits the force to the tibia, causing the lower leg to extend.
The patellar tendon plays a vital role in everyday activities such as walking, running, jumping, and kicking.
