A tuberosity is a large, rounded prominence on a bone that serves as an attachment site for muscles or ligaments. The surface is typically rough to provide a secure grip for tendons and is usually non-articular, meaning it does not participate directly in a joint.

Tuberosities develop where a tendon or ligament exerts repeated traction or where growth and remodeling of bone occur in response to muscular forces. They vary in size and prominence among individuals and can be found on many bones. Common examples include the tibial tuberosity, which is the attachment site for the patellar ligament; the calcaneal (heel) tuberosity for the Achilles tendon; the deltoid tuberosity on the humerus for the deltoid muscle; the ischial tuberosity for the hamstring muscles; and the radial tuberosity for the biceps brachii. The femur also has a gluteal tuberosity for the gluteus maximus.

Clinical relevance includes the potential for avulsion fractures at tuberosities when a tendon is forcibly contracted, a concern particularly in adolescents (as with tibial tuberosity avulsion and related conditions). Tuberosities are important landmarks in clinical examination and imaging, helping to identify muscle attachments and assess bone integrity.

In anatomical terminology, tuberosity is distinct from a tubercle, which is typically a smaller prominence for tendon attachment.
