passaste

Passaste is a Portuguese verb form. It is the second-person singular preterite (pretérito perfeito do indicativo) of the verb passar, meaning to pass, to spend time, or to go past. As such, passaste translates to "you passed" or "you spent" depending on the context (for example, you passed by something or you spent time somewhere).

Usage and regional variation: passaste is primarily used with the pronoun tu. In European Portuguese and in some Brazilian dialects that preserve the tu form, passaste is common in written and spoken language. In much of Brazilian Portuguese, the equivalent meaning is usually expressed with você: você passou. The verb forms for other subjects include ele/ela passou, nós passámos (Portugal) or nós passamos (Brazil), e vocês passaram.

Etymology: passaste derives from the verb passar, which comes from Latin passāre (to step, to pass). It shares the same root as related verbs in Romance languages that express passing, crossing, or spending time.
