Paraboliset is a Finnish adjective used to describe things related to a parabola, the plane curve defined as the locus of points equidistant from a fixed point (the focus) and a fixed line (the directrix). In mathematics, a parabola is a conic section produced when a plane intersects a right circular cone parallel to its side. The curve has a single axis of symmetry and a distinguished point called the vertex. In Cartesian coordinates, it commonly appears as y = ax^2 + bx + c, or in standard form (x − h)^2 = 4p(y − k) with vertex (h, k) and focal length p. The focus is at (h, k + p) and the directrix is y = k − p. The length of the latus rectum is |4p|.

Paraboliset curves or surfaces appear in optics and engineering. Parabolic reflectors and satellite dishes convert incoming parallel rays into a single focus; parabolic arcs influence car headlights and antennas as well. In physics, a projectile under uniform gravity describes a parabolic trajectory when air resistance is negligible. The paraboloid is the three-dimensional analogue, used for antennas, telescopes, and architectural forms.

In Finnish, paraboliset describes objects or patterns with parabolic geometry or behavior, for example paraboliset käyrät (parabolic curves) and paraboliset heijastimet (parabolic reflectors). The term derives from Greek parabole, from para- “beside” and ballein “to throw.”
