paleocontinent
A paleocontinent is a large, ancient landmass that existed in the geological past. These were composed of continental crust and often included a significant portion of the Earth's land surface. Unlike present-day continents, paleocontinents were not fixed in their positions but moved and changed over millions of years due to plate tectonics.
The most famous example of a paleocontinent is Pangaea, which existed during the late Paleozoic and early
Scientists reconstruct paleocontinents using evidence from paleomagnetism, fossil distribution, and the geological structures of continental fragments.
