Painemekanismi is a Finnish term that translates to "pain mechanism" in English. It refers to the biological processes involved in the generation, transmission, and perception of pain. This complex system allows the body to detect and respond to harmful stimuli, serving as a crucial protective mechanism.

The pain mechanism begins with nociceptors, specialized sensory nerve endings that are activated by potentially damaging stimuli such as extreme temperatures, intense pressure, or chemical irritants.
