Relief regulators are designed to protect systems from over-pressurization. They are typically set at a maximum allowable pressure and will open to vent excess fluid or gas if that limit is exceeded. This prevents damage to equipment and ensures safe operation. Back-pressure regulators, also known as back-pressure valves, are used to maintain a specific minimum pressure in a system. They resist flow until a certain pressure is reached, effectively creating a back-pressure.
