In statistics and modeling, overordinating can manifest as adding unnecessary levels of hierarchy, prioritizing order constraints, or imposing strong priors that enforce a presumed structure. This can lead to model misspecification, reduced predictive performance, and fragility when data do not conform to the assumed order.

In decision making and policy, overordinating may involve valuing high-level strategic orders of priority at the expense of local inspection, context, or flexible adaptation. In cognitive processing, people may rely too heavily on perceived orders or causal chains, attributing outcomes to higher-order regularities rather than stochastic variation.
