Otsmäntsuk is a term used in early 20th-century Tallinn, Estonia, which roughly translates to "ailments of the night" or "nighttime afflictions" in the local dialect. The expression is believed to refer to a series of mysterious afflictions that plagued the city's population during the Optober Revolution of 1905, when thousands of people were injured or died as a result of stampedes, violence, and ruling establishment's crackdown on demonstrations.

The term "otsmäntsuk" is thought to have originated from the shock and trauma that the city's residents experienced during this period of turmoil. According to oral legends and local lore, on consecutive nights over the course of several weeks, numerous people in Tallinn reported experiencing vivid hallucinations and nightmare visions. The descriptions of these visions often centered around blood-soaked streets and apparitions of death-stricken demonstrators.

While some scholars have attempted to link "otsmäntsuk" to documented phenomena such as mass hysteria or shared psychosomatic disorders, the issue remains insufficiently researched and is subject to interpretation.
