Ostrou is a fictional municipality in the fictional country of Veridia. It is located in the Veridian highlands, along the Ostro River, about 60 kilometers north of the capital. The name is derived from the river and the Old Veridian word for “sharp” adapted over time in local dialects.

History: The settlement originated in the 12th century as a small fortified outpost. A wooden fortress was rebuilt in stone in the 13th century, and the town grew around agricultural estates. It became part of the county of Lir in the 15th century and acquired municipal status in 1860.

Geography and demographics: The municipality covers 34 square kilometers, with elevations ranging from 150 to 420 meters. The climate is temperate with mild summers and cold winters. As of 2023, Ostrou has about 2,100 residents.

Economy and culture: Agriculture remains the backbone—grains, vegetables, and apples—supplemented by small-scale timber and craft production. The annual Harvest Festival is a major event, featuring local music, markets, and demonstrations of traditional handicrafts.

Infrastructure and governance: Ostrou is governed by a mayor and a 12-member council elected every four years. Public services include a primary school, a secondary school shared with neighboring communes, a library, and a health outpost. Ostrou Station links to the Veridian North Railway and is served by regional buses.
