oraele

Oraele is a fictional terrestrial planet in the Oraeles System, created as part of a long-running science fiction setting. In the in-universe lore, the name Oraele comes from the Oraean language, where ora means dawn and ele denotes land. The planet orbits a Sun-like star with a period of about 333 days at a semi-major axis near 0.97 astronomical units and a low eccentricity.

Oraele has a radius of approximately 1.14 Earth radii and a mass near 1.6 Earth masses, producing a surface gravity around 1.16 g. Its atmosphere is nitrogen–oxygen dominated, with trace argon and carbon dioxide, yielding a surface pressure close to 1 bar. The climate is temperate, with mean surface temperatures in the range of 12–16 C and seasonal variation moderated by a modest axial tilt. Oceans cover about 62 percent of the surface, and the landmasses include two major continents, Aurea and Valara, plus numerous archipelagos.

The biosphere is described as diverse, featuring temperate forests, coastal ecosystems, and a range of microbial life in subsurface environments. No consensus on indigenous megafauna exists within the canon. Geological activity includes volcanism and plate dynamics, contributing to soil fertility and climate effects over long timescales.

Discovery and governance: Oraele was first described by autonomous survey probes in 2143, with human colonization efforts commencing in 2147. Oraele City serves as the administrative hub, governed by the Oraele Assembly under a federated system within a broader interstellar confederation. The planet is noted for spectacular auroral displays and research stations focusing on climate science and biosphere studies.
