Oracions are acts of addressing the divine or a higher power through spoken, liturgical, or silent communication. They are a central component of many religions and can also appear in secular contexts as a form of personal reflection. In Catalan, oració means prayer; oracions is the plural.

Etymology and usage: The term derives from Latin oratio, meaning speech, plea, or prayer. The Catalan form developed with accent marks to indicate pronunciation; oracions is the standard plural in contemporary Catalan.

Types: Prayers can be liturgical, recited in a community during services; personal or contemplative prayers said privately; and intercessory prayers asking for others or thanksgiving. In Catholic practice, common prayers include traditional formulas such as the Pater Noster and Ave Maria, as well as the Liturgy of the Hours; in other traditions, prayers may be spontaneous, meditative, or chant-based.
