Oktaaninen is a term used in chemistry and refers to a property or characteristic related to octane. Octane (C8H18) is a saturated hydrocarbon, an alkane with eight carbon atoms. It is a key component of gasoline. The term "oktaaninen" is primarily used in the context of the octane rating of fuels, particularly gasoline.

The octane rating is a measure of a fuel's resistance to knocking or pinging in an internal combustion engine. Knocking occurs when the fuel-air mixture in the engine cylinder ignites prematurely, leading to a loss of power and potential engine damage.
