obvazy

Obvazy is the Czech term for bandages or dressings used in wound care and injury management. They serve to protect wounds from infection, absorb blood and exudate, limit movement when needed, and apply pressure to control bleeding or reduce swelling. In clinical practice, obvazy range from simple adhesive strips and sterile gauze pads to elastic or cohesive wraps that provide compression and immobilization.

Common forms include sterile gauze bandages and pads, non-adherent dressings, adhesive bandages with protective pads, crepe or elastic bandages, and cohesive wraps. Materials are selected based on wound type, location, and required protection or support.

Application basics: perform hand hygiene, prepare sterile supplies, clean the wound as directed, place a sterile pad directly over the wound, cover with an appropriate bandage, and secure it without cutting off circulation. Check frequently for signs of poor perfusion (discoloration, numbness) or irritation. Dressings should be changed according to guidelines or if they become wet or dirty.

Safety and cautions: avoid overly tight application that restricts blood flow. Seek medical care for profuse bleeding, deep or contaminated wounds, signs of infection, severe burns, or if pain increases after applying a bandage.
