oberflächenaktiven
Oberflächenaktiven, often shortened to "Surfaktanten," are compounds that lower the surface tension between two liquids, a gas and a liquid, or a liquid and a solid. This reduction in surface tension is due to their molecular structure, which typically consists of a hydrophilic (water-attracting) head and a hydrophobic (water-repelling) tail. When introduced into a liquid, these molecules arrange themselves at the interface, with the hydrophilic heads in the liquid and the hydrophobic tails extending away from it. This arrangement disrupts the cohesive forces between the liquid molecules at the surface, thus lowering surface tension.
This property makes Oberflächenaktiven incredibly versatile. They are crucial in detergents and soaps, where they help
Oberflächenaktiven are broadly classified into four categories based on the charge of their hydrophilic head: anionic
