Nuarvot is a phenomenon observed in some regions of Finland and other Nordic countries, particularly during periods of low solar activity. The term literally translates to "northern lights" in Finnish, but it refers specifically to a type of diffuse, ethereal glow that is often mistaken for the aurora borealis. However, nuarvot is a distinct atmospheric optical phenomenon that differs from the aurora in its causes and characteristics.

The exact mechanism by which nuarvot occurs is not yet fully understood. However, researchers believe that it is related to specific atmospheric conditions that are present when there is a lack of solar activity.
