Noneukleidészi, also known as non-Euclidean geometry, is a branch of mathematics that studies geometric systems that do not adhere to the parallel postulate of Euclidean geometry. This postulate, first stated by the ancient Greek mathematician Euclid, asserts that given a line and a point not on that line, there is exactly one line through the point that is parallel to the given line. In non-Euclidean geometry, this postulate is either replaced or removed, leading to the development of various geometric systems with distinct properties.

There are two main types of non-Euclidean geometry: hyperbolic and elliptic. Hyperbolic geometry, also known as Lobachevskian geometry, is characterized by having infinitely many lines through a point that are parallel to a given line. This geometry was independently discovered by the Russian mathematician Nikolai Ivanovich Lobachevsky and the Hungarian mathematician János Bolyai in the early 19th century. Elliptic geometry, on the other hand, has no parallel lines at all. In this geometry, any two lines will eventually intersect. The study of elliptic geometry was significantly influenced by the work of the German mathematician Bernhard Riemann.

Non-Euclidean geometries have profound implications for various fields, including physics and philosophy. They provide the mathematical framework for Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity, which describes gravity as the curvature of spacetime.
