Nonaristocratic refers to individuals or groups who do not belong to the aristocracy. The aristocracy is a class of people, typically hereditary, who hold high social rank and are often distinguished by titles and privileges. Therefore, to be nonaristocratic means to exist outside of this hereditary ruling or privileged class.

Historically, societies were often rigidly stratified, with the aristocracy at the apex. Below them existed various other social strata, including the gentry, merchants, artisans, peasants, and laborers. Anyone not born into or elevated to aristocratic status would be considered nonaristocratic. This category encompasses the vast majority of the population in many historical contexts.

In modern times, with the decline of hereditary monarchies and feudal systems in many parts of the world, the concept of a distinct aristocratic class has diminished in significance. While titles and noble families may still exist, their political and social power is often greatly reduced. Consequently, the distinction between aristocratic and nonaristocratic individuals has become less pronounced in many contemporary societies. The term might still be used to denote a lack of hereditary privilege or social standing traditionally associated with nobility.
