niezmienia

Niezmienia is a term encountered in Polish linguistics as a discussion point about negation of the verb zmieniać, meaning to change. In standard modern Polish, negation of zmieniać is usually expressed with two separate words: nie zmienia. The single-word form niezmienia is rare and typically regarded as nonstandard, archaic, or stylistically marked, appearing mainly in older texts, poetry, or typographic variants.

Grammatically, the verb zmieniać is imperfective, and its negation can be formed by placing nie before the verb. The commonplace, normative construction is nie zmienia, used with third-person singular subjects such as on/ona/ono. The one-word form niezmienia, when it appears, would be interpreted as a highly unusual or historical variant of the same idea, rather than as a regular, productive form in contemporary usage. As a result, most contemporary Polish references recommend the two-word negation for clarity and correctness.

Semantically, niezmienia carries the same core meaning as nie zmienia: it expresses that something does not undergo change or that a state remains constant. However, due to its rarity and potential for misreading, it is virtually absent from standard grammar guides and everyday writing. The more common related terms are niezmienny (invariable, constant) and niezmienność (invariance, constancy), which describe the quality rather than a specific tense form.
