ngjashmërive

Ngjashmërive refers to the property by which two or more entities share similar features, forms, or relationships. In Albanian usage, the term covers similarities between objects, ideas, linguistic forms, or patterns, and it can describe both concrete likenesses and abstract correspondences. The concept plays a central role in classification, inference, and reasoning, where comparisons help establish connections and distinctions among items.

Different types of ngjashmëri are often distinguished in academic discourse. Structural similarity compares shapes, arrangements, or architectures; semantic similarity assesses relatedness in meaning or function; numerical or statistical similarity measures the degree of likeness based on data. Subjective interpretations may occur in everyday language, while formal analyses seek objective criteria.

Methods for assessing ngjashmërive include qualitative comparison—describing common features—and quantitative metrics. In data science, cosine similarity, Jaccard index, and Euclidean distance are used to quantify resemblance between vectors, sets, or points in a space. In linguistics, lexical or phonological similarity is evaluated through overlap of segments, phonetic distance, or cognate analysis.

Applications span many fields: organizing knowledge in taxonomies; clustering items in machine learning; studying historical language change; evaluating analogies in cognitive science; and supporting decision-making in information retrieval.
