Neuronu is a term that refers to a single neuron, the fundamental unit of the nervous system. Neurons communicate with each other through electrical and chemical signals. When a neuron is stimulated, an electrical impulse travels along the axon to the axon terminal. The impulse triggers the release of neurotransmitters, chemical messengers that cross the synaptic gap and bind to receptors on the next neuron, muscle, or gland cell. This process allows for the transmission of information throughout the nervous system.
